Description
Chamarel is a jewel of a distillery founded in 2008 by the Couacaud family in southern Mauritius, near the world famous "Seven Colored Earth" location. A small distillery in the middle of a 300 hectare domain, surrounded by 35 sugar cane fields. A unique basic material that is harvested by hand, fermentation with its own yeasts and distillation in different boilers. This way Chamarel can produce different types of rum; light in a Barbet single column, heavier rum in a double distillation with a cognac or armagnac type kettle.
This rum was made from sugar cane juice, distilled in September 2014 in a single column still. 4 years of tropical maturity in Mauritius and bottled on barrel strength; 58%.
