Description
Speaking of legends, few can beat the story of John Crow. This crazy story begins with a crime; theft committed on the Hampden Estate. At the time, Jamaican brandy was being stolen here by members of a criminal gang from Trelawny, which was among the more nefarious neighbors of the Hampden Estate distillery.
The brandy was named John Crow, because a person had to have a stomach as strong as a vulture, which is called “John Crow” in Jamaica, to be able to drink it. And it is in this stolen fiery water that Jamaican overproof rum originates. It was used not only for drinking, but also for baptisms, exorcisms, as medicine, at weddings, etc. White rum became a spititual cure for everything.
