True to the family tradition of innovation since 1788, the Karukera master blender has been studying barrel aging and the oak’s contribution to the sensory characteristics of rum for the past two decades.
Starting in 2017, his focus shifted to the pursuit of sweetness and succulence to balance the powerful and spicy rums previously achieved. These efforts led to the creation of unique profile, Karukera’s Alligator, and the Double Distillate 2008 & 2013.
For this new Insolite profile, again the analysis of organoleptic and analytical variations between new and used barrels from different wood selections validated the oak’s contribution to achieving sweetness, richness, and volume during barrel aging, as well as the introduction of bitterness from neighboring molecules.

L’Insolite is one of the chosen experiments by the master blender and represents a new Karukera profile. Aged in exceptional barrels from SEGUIN MOREAU cooperage, L’Insolite stands out with its fruity, round, and sweet aromatic character, complemented by a slight and enjoyable bitterness.
