We know Amrut from India best as a producer of whisky, but they also make rum. In fact, they are the 7th best-selling rum brand in the world. Their rums are made from molasses and jaggery, a local type of sugar made from sugar cane juice. The rum is distilled in a column still and matured in ex-whiskey barrels and new oak barrels. Due to the very high evaporation ratio due to maturation in a tropical climate, the rum gets an intense taste of dark brown sugar, fruit, ginger and other spices.
